This year’s fall camporee, Hawaiian Christmas, was filled with hard events, great food, and fun times. The morning events on Saturday were: a orienteering course, a egg race obstacle course, and a log throw. These events measured a troops all around skill and took the average of each troops score to determine the winner.
The afternoon events were also extremely enjoyable. The afternoon events started with Limbo, how low can you go, which was funny and enjoyable for all the scouts there. The next event was a sled race, A-frame race, which was enjoyable for everyone to watch and a true test to one’s ability to tie strong knots.
These events were won by the following troops: orienteering was won by troop 440, the egg race was won by troop 101, the log throw was one by troop 32, the limbo was won by troop 32, and the sled race was won by troop 32. The final award to be given out was Roxanne, the spirit award, this award is given to the troop who most exemplifies what it means to be a scout. This camporees winner of the spirit award was troop 32.
These events and awards, however, were not the only enjoyable thing about this camporee; the meals were also phenomenal. For dinner on Saturday, each troop brought food for a group potluck where we exchanged food, friendship, and fellowship. Lastly, the camporee had great weather which further enhanced the atmosphere.
In addition to all of this, the OA callout at this camporee was especially well planned. The callout atmosphere left all who were there in awe. The drums laid down a dark atmosphere while all there listened in anticipation for what came next. Also, the ceremony went extremely well with quite a few people getting inducted into the OA.
With all of these amazing events the camporee was destined for success, and not only did it succeed it was way better than anyone could have imagined. I can’t wait to see what spring camporee has in store for the NEGA Mountain District.
