This year’s fall camporee, with a Survivor TV show theme, was filled with challenging events, friendly competition, great food, skits, songs, and other fun times. We had great weather, and the Carter’s Lake Campground was ablaze with brilliant Fall leaf color. With less than 2 months to organize, our hosting Troop 402 was able to delegate events to all other participating Troops and pull off a successful Camporee. To further lessen the burden, we forewent the traditional potluck dinner on Saturday night as the Troops prepared all of their meals. There was no Order of the Arrow callout for this Camporee. Morning Events
The morning events were all time-based, with the fastest Troops awarded as the individual event winner. The Blind Maze was evidently the favorite overall event as measured by the amount of cheering at our closing ceremony campfire.
- Tarp Flip (Winner: Troop 440)
- Wilderness First Aid (Winner: Troop 101)
- Blind Maze (Winner: Troop 32)
Afternoon Events
The afternoon events were also time-based, but with a fun twist. As with morning events, Troops were awarded individual event winners based on best time, however, an additional award was given to the Troop that completed all 3 in the fastest time.
- Pyramid Balls (Winner: Troop 32)
- Five-Gallon Bucket (Winner: Troop 32)
- Fire Building (Winner: Troop 101)
- Overall (Winner: Troop 101)
Hunt for the IDOL
If you’ve ever seen the Survivor TV show, you are probably familiar with the special award given to the contestant who finds an IDOL hidden somewhere in the vicinity. Our Survivor Camporee IDOL was a coconut head with a cryptic note that was hidden in a hollow log in the campground area. Other cryptic clues on notes were scattered around the campground. The winning Troop member was awarded a $50 gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops at the closing ceremony campfire.
- Hunt for the IDOL (Winner: Troop 101)
Scout Spirit Award
During the day on Saturday, Troop 402 was on the lookout for a Scout who demonstrated the most Scout Spirit.
- Scout Spirit (Winner: Carter B., Troop 101)
Roxanne
Keeping with Mountain District tradition, Roxanne (a large totem pole) was placed in Troop 101 care for winning the Overall award.See you in the Spring at our next Camporee!
